FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jessica Murray Projects is pleased to announce "I'm Only Now"
by Brady Dollarhide and "Test Kit" by Daniel Davidson. Both
exhibitions will open Friday, September 20 with a reception
from 6-9 PM and will run through November 3. Gallery hours
are Friday – Sunday, 12-6 PM.
MAIN
GALLERY
For Brady Dollarhide's first solo exhibition,
"I'm Only Now," he continues a series of paintings
that meld portraiture and landscape. Using the black-silhouetted
tree as a stand-in for the sitter, these larger works expand
on his earlier "head shots" to subjects of seminal human activity.
Each painting has an immediate mood—expectant and peaceful,
somber, discordant, excited, but their metaphors of birth,
failure, conflict and pursuit unravel slowly. Dollarhide seduces
the viewer with expressionistic skies in pink, gray, turquoise
and orange. Sampling different painting techniques, he plays
with drips, smears, and pristinely prepared silkiness. These
meditative surfaces are activated by a combination of trees,
cords, and stars that together create decisive moments without
any distinct biographical details. Like snapshots, his paintings
are framed with thin white borders referencing the documentation
and construction of personal history.
Brady Dollarhide will be featured in Art and Antiques magazine
in a article on emerging artists (December).
DRAWING
ROOM
In the drawing room, Jessica Murray Projects is also pleased
to announce "Test Kit" by Daniel Davidson.
Davidson presents a selection of collages and drawings in
pen, ink, and acrylic that explore subjects of self-deprecation,
violence and immorality. From a fashion illustration of a
man with madras pants whose head has been replaced by the
oversized sinister face of the artist, to a trompe l'oeil
Post-it from his brother saying, "Give me a call," the artist
samples various drawing styles and materials. Unencumbered
by stylistic affiliation, Davidson creates exaggerated character
studies of the menacing, the ignorant, and the deceitful.
